Let’s face it. You’re not getting any younger. The older you get the more and more you seem to lose touch with the music, technology, and the style of today’s youth. You try to keep up. You’ve got a Facebook page and a Twitter profile. You’ve probably even read more than a few books about generational relevance and emerging church cultures.
Perhaps you’ve asked, “When will I have learned enough about this generation in order to reach them with my message?”.
The more and more I am invited to speak to churches, I am asked these questions and many more by several pastors. They want to know how to fit in. And for a good reason too. They want to touch the younger generation for Jesus, share with them their legacies, and keep them from making some of the same mistakes.
I am here to help. In a series of posts called Project: Help A Pastor, I am going to share some free secrets with you. Consider me your young adult insider for the time being, and I will teach you how to genuinely connect with today’s post modern Christian youth, use social media correctly and more effectively, and even develop a relevant dress code.
I am excited to be speaking at the MORE Conference this year with Bryan and Katie Torwalt, David Wagner, and Alyn and AJ Jones.
Date: May 24 – 27, 2013
Event: MORE Conference
Venue: Grace Center
Location: Franklin, TN

When we’re afraid, we hesitate. Hesitation keeps us from launching new projects, acquiring new skills, and taking the big risks that are necessary to change the world.
While preparing to launch this website, I sat at a stalemate for almost three months. I wanted everything to be just perfect. I wanted people to be impressed and to come back often. So instead of just going for it, I did absolutely nothing out of fear. That’s called severe hesitation. And hesitation is exactly what keeps us from success and personal greatness.
I once heard someone say that identity theft is the most rampant crime in the world. I am not sure if that is precisely true or not, but I do believe that identity theft is the most rampant crime in the spirit. The enemy does his very best to keep us from the divine knowledge of our true nature.
I’ve personally had my credit card stolen, twice. Unlike other crimes, having your identity stolen is extremely subtle. You don’t even notice that it’s happened until it’s too late. When this happened to me, I received my credit card statement in the mail only to find out that I owed $4,000 for Apple computers that I had never purchased.
As human beings, we all experience various seasons of revelation about God. For most of us, our belief system concerning the reality of God was formed early on in life. Being a Christian, I very obviously believe in God, but also that every person, no matter their circumstance, has the ability to hear directly from Him.
For me, these seasons of revelation about God are filled with great joy. I am deeply satisfied as God reveals more about Himself to me in prayer, or through the Bible.
Welcome to my personal blog and soon to come, online store.
My name is Lyle Phillips. I’m 28 years old and in full-time ministry. I am the Sr. Pastor of Iris Nashville, a church and missions base that sends, receives, and trains happy missionaries. I am also the Founder of Iris Andhra Pradesh, a charitable organization in India that helps orphans and victims of human trafficking.
My mission here is to awaken our generation to the greatness within them. All the while, creating a necessary income by providing motivational resources and quality products that inspire others to dominate life and change the world.
On the blog, I’ll condense my sermons into short, readable posts and provide my personal notes as a resource to be used by others for further study or teaching. I also will write about Christian missions, church, leadership, and productivity. Occasionally, I’ll also write about style and culture.
My plan is to post articles two to three times a week. Most often on Tuesday and Friday, and then something fun, like a cool video, on Saturday. Make sure you don’t miss out on my new posts each week by subscribing via RSS or email.
For the most part, I’m just another small town southern boy from Kentucky. I grew up in a Christian home where my parents were, and still are pastors. I am the eldest of four boys. And for as long as I can remember, I have always been very passionate about personal greatness.
As a child, I just knew that I was destined to play professional basketball in the NBA. Despite not having the height, I worked hard and eventually spent each summer traveling as a Nike sponsored athlete. I competed in some of the most premier tournaments with the nation’s top college prospects.
